China and Pakistan issued a joint statement on further deepening their bilateral partnership on Monday, as Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has just finished his official visit to China from May 23 to 26, at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
The joint statement says both sides are determined to unswervingly safeguard and develop bilateral relations, maintain high-level exchanges, and foster an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era.
Both sides reaffirmed their unyielding support for each other on issues concerning their respective core interests.
Pakistan reaffirmed its strong commitment to the one-China principle, and holds the view that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory of the People's Republic of China and the Taiwan question is at the core of China's core interests.
The two countries agreed to advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and promote the high-quality development of the upgraded Version 2.0 of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
They also agreed to tap potential for cooperation in such areas as economy and trade, energy, and scientific and technological innovation.
The statement says China stands ready to work with Pakistan to fully implement the Global Security Initiative, establish the China-Pakistan Security Partnership, and conduct continued bilateral and multilateral counter-terrorism cooperation.
The Pakistani side expressed support for the four propositions by President Xi Jinping on safeguarding and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East. Both sides reiterated early implementation of the five-point initiative for restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East region.
