A Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman on Thursday urged efforts to maintain the momentum of the steady development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations.

Spokeswoman Mao Ning made the remarks at a daily press briefing in Beijing in response to a media query about China's export controls over rare earth.

"According to what I learned, the Chinese Embassy in the United States has reposted preliminary outcomes of economic and trade consultations between the two countries [on social media]. China and the United States should jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, and maintain the momentum of steady development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations," she said.

Hong Kong's stock market ended lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Hang Seng Index down 1.27 percent to close at 25,006.16 points.

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index lost 1.17 percent to end at 8,364.41 points, and the Hang Seng Tech Index slipped 0.39 percent to end at 4,888.58 points.
