The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that Israeli troops had struck multiple Hezbollah's facilities in Lebanon on Sunday, while Hezbollah said that it had launched several attacks on Israeli forces and towns in northern Israel from Sunday to early Monday.
The IDF said in a statement on Sunday that Israeli troops carried out strikes on Hezbollah's infrastructure in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre and several other areas. Since the ceasefire began in April, Israeli troops have killed 900 Hezbollah operatives, the IDF added.
In addition, the Israeli military said that sirens sounded in multiple locations in northern Israel on Sunday night, and it detected three missiles fired from Lebanon toward Israeli territory, two of which were intercepted by its air defense system.
Hezbollah announced that from Sunday to early Monday, it had carried out multiple rounds of operations targeting Israeli military personnel and equipment in southern Lebanon and northern Israel near the border with Lebanon. The targets included Israeli troops and military vehicles deployed at the Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon, resulting in casualties on the Israeli side.
A ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon took effect in mid-April. Despite the truce, Israel has continued to carry out near-daily strikes in Lebanon, while Hezbollah has launched attacks on Israeli military positions.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has spoken in the last 48 hours with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an attempt to advance a new ceasefire initiative, a U.S. official told U.S. media outlet Axios on Sunday.
The senior U.S. official said the new initiative was proposed as part of the ongoing negotiations between Israel and Lebanon. Another round of talks between diplomats from both sides is scheduled to take place this week in Washington.
