China's top political advisor Wang Huning held a forum with members of the chairpersons' council of the 9th Council of the Western Returned Scholars Association (Overseas-educated Scholars Association of China) in Beijing on Tuesday.
Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, also met with representatives of the association's second National Congress.
Noting that the association should always adhere to the Party's leadership, Wang called on it to play a role in advancing Chinese modernization, matching overseas-educated scholars' strengths with the needs of the Party and the country.
Wang said the association should strengthen its self-improvement, so as to deliver more results on serving as a bridge between the Party and returned scholars, and an assistant to the Party and the government in handling work related to overseas-educated people.
He also urged Party committees at all levels to earnestly implement relevant policies and create a favorable environment for returned scholars to serve the country.
