China firmly opposes any form of military contact between the United States and China's Taiwan region, said Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, on Wednesday.

Zhu made the remarks in response to a question about the so-called "Taiwan-U.S. Defense Industry Forum," where some claimed that Taiwan's industrial sector is ready to work with the United States to build a so-called "defense technology ecosystem" in the Indo-Pacific region.

"We firmly oppose any form of military contact between the United States and China's Taiwan region. The so-called 'defense technology ecosystem' conceals the malicious intentions of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities to seek secession by soliciting foreign support and building up its military, and to serve as a pawn in the U.S. efforts to use Taiwan to contain China. Such actions will only put Taiwan in a more dangerous situation and bring greater suffering to the Taiwan compatriots. The DPP authorities' continuous attempts to seek secession and make provocation in collusion with external forces is an overreach of their capabilities, like an egg striking a rock. It will only accelerate the doomed failure of Taiwan secessionists," said Zhu.

A whale shark was filmed swimming near a small fishing boat off the coast of Fangchenggang City in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday.

A local fisherman sailing around an offshore wind power project in the waters of Beibu Gulf saw the whale shark slowly approaching his dinghy, swimming alongside it briefly before gradually swimming away.

Whale sharks have a tendency of migrating to Beibu Gulf every May and June. The area's summer fishing moratorium provides them with abundant food sources.
