A whale shark was filmed swimming near a small fishing boat off the coast of Fangchenggang City in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday.

A local fisherman sailing around an offshore wind power project in the waters of Beibu Gulf saw the whale shark slowly approaching his dinghy, swimming alongside it briefly before gradually swimming away.

Whale sharks have a tendency of migrating to Beibu Gulf every May and June. The area's summer fishing moratorium provides them with abundant food sources.
