China's State Grid braces for record summer demand

The State Grid Corporation of China is implementing 168 key projects nationwide to safeguard electricity supply during the upcoming summer peak season.

China’s peak load is expected to reach about 1.6 billion kilowatts this summer, 90 million kilowatts higher than last year, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

As the country's largest power supplier, the State Grid's peak load is estimated to exceed 1.3 billion kilowatts this summer, an increase of 6 percent year on year.

The NDRC said a comprehensive assessment shows China’s overall power supply capacity is generally sufficient to meet demand during the peak season.

Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement on Sunday that 10 fatalities and 36 injuries had been reported across hospitals across Gaza over the past 24 hours.

According to statistics, the Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 72,971, with 173,000 others wounded since Oct. 7, 2023.

A total of 961 people have been killed and 3,020 others wounded since a ceasefire in Gaza came into effect on Oct. 10.
