The ancient town of Pingyao in north China's Shanxi Province has introduced an array of dazzling nighttime activities including light show and immersive performances to boost visitor numbers around the clock.

As night fell, accompanied by dazzling lights and emotive music, actors perform a story depicting the faithfulness, loyalty and courage of local merchants at the foot of Pingyao.

"The weather is cool, the lights are beautiful, and there are a lot of tourists. You can also feel the cultural atmosphere of Pingyao as an ancient city," said Wang Ye, a tourist.

With a history of over 2,700 years, Pingyao is famous for its well-preserved urban landscape from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911). It was named a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1997.

The ancient city, covering an area of 2.25 square km, is home to more than 300 cultural relics and nearly 4,000 traditional buildings.
