Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Saturday condemned the long-standing economic blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States, calling it a cruel and indiscriminate collective punishment that seriously threatens the right to life of Cuban children.
Rodriguez said in his social media post on X that Cuba's infant mortality rate is rising due to the ongoing U.S. oil blockade and economic sanctions while the survival rate for children with cancer is also declining.
He also urged the United States to lift sanctions so that Cuban children can live and grow up in a peaceful environment.
The United States imposed sanctions on Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and several other individuals and entities on Thursday to ramp up pressure on the island country.
Earlier this year, U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that his administration would turn its attention to Cuba after the conflict with Iran winds down.
