China's exports of artificial intelligence-related products, such as industrial robots, reached 4.12 trillion yuan (about 608 billion U.S. dollars) in the first five months of this year, marking a year-on-year increase of 52.4 percent, according to the General Administration of Customs.
In recent years, south China's industrial powerhouse of Guangdong Province has taken various measures to explore the development and application of AI-related products, with domestically leading industrial clusters booming in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area city cluster.
In the first five months, the import and export volume of the nine mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area reached 4.28 trillion yuan (633.1 billion U.S. dollars), up 18.8 percent year on year. In particular, AI-related products exports proved to be the strongest force driving performance.
"Dongguan City has exported industrial robots worth over 160 million yuan (23.7 million U.S. dollars) since the beginning of this year, expanding its export destinations to over 60 other countries globally. The city's exports to emerging markets such as Thailand, Türkiye and Mexico have more than doubled, and the types of its exports have included welding robots, transfer robots, assembly robots and many others," said Teng Lei, deputy director of Dongguan Customs.
"China's imports and exports of AI-related products have generally shown a month-on-month expansion trend since the beginning of this year. This has not only supported intelligent upgrading of domestic industries, but also provided a stable source of supply for global AI industry development," said Lyu Daliang, director of the Department of Statistics and Analysis, the General Administration of Customs.
