China's ideas and actions increasingly resonate with the international community with the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) being endorsed by nearly 160 countries and international organizations, according to a white paper released by the State Council Information Office on Wednesday.

The reason behind this lies in the fact that China understands how to meet the call of the day and shape the trends of our times, according to the white paper titled "More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China's Principles, Proposals and Actions."

An equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization are the trends of the times, and true multilateralism is the only path forward, noted the white paper.

The GGI, while rooted in China, benefits the world, it emphasized.

China has put forward a series of new ideas and propositions that champion shared values and joint actions, responding to the common aspirations of the international community and addressing the most pressing issues in global governance.

"The GGI, since its inception, has received extensive and positive responses from the international community. To date, it has been welcomed and supported by nearly 160 countries and international organizations, with over 60 countries having actively joined the 'Group of Friends of Global Governance.' The GGI has thus evolved from a Chinese initiative into an international practice, increasingly demonstrating its robust vitality," said Wan Yi, Chinese foreign minister and a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, when elaborating on the white paper at a press conference in Beijing.

Championing its rich diplomatic traditions and drawing strength from the fine traditional culture, China advances with and leads the times while remains committed to action, showed the white paper.

China has adopted a series of initiatives to confront various global risks and challenges, continuously enriching the practice of global governance.

Providing systematic solutions, China's four major global initiatives run in parallel with a focus on different domains and form a complete action framework that promotes prosperity through development, ensures stability through security, enhances mutual trust through exchanges between civilizations, and seeks justice through governance, the white paper noted.

By proposing the GGI and a series of new ideas and approaches, China has deepened its understanding of the laws governing the development of human society, broken free from the outdated "core-periphery" framework of the old international order, transcended the flawed logic that "might makes right," abandoned the zero-sum mentality of "winner takes all," and promoted the advancement of human political civilization, said the white paper.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met on Tuesday on preparations for the fifth round of negotiations with Israel to be held in Washington next Monday, as hostilities between the two countries continue despite the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Early on Monday, the United States, Pakistan and Iran announced the finalization of an MoU on ending the war following weeks of negotiations, noting that it will be officially signed in Switzerland on Friday. The MoU also intends to end fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Welcoming the MoU as a positive step for regional de-escalation, the two Lebanese leaders called for a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territory, as well as the deployment of the Lebanese army along the border, the return of Lebanese detainees, and the launch of reconstruction efforts.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem thanked Iran in a message on Tuesday for helping stop the "Israeli-American aggression" on Lebanon.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a press conference on Monday that the Israeli military would remain in the "security zones" it controlled in Lebanon, Syria and the Gaza Strip as long as necessary.

On Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its air defenses intercepted several rockets launched by Hezbollah at Israeli troops in southern Lebanon in the morning, adding its Air Force struck and destroyed the launcher a short while later.

Meanwhile, Israeli attacks have intensified in the Nabatieh area in southern Lebanon, where drone strikes killed four people and injured several others in Mayfadoun on Tuesday, according to a preliminary toll reported by Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA).

A drone first targeted a vehicle in Mayfadoun before striking the area again after residents gathered at the scene. A second vehicle was later targeted in the same area, according to NNA.

The Emergency Operations Center of Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health said the cumulative death toll from hostilities in Lebanon between March 2 and June 16 has reached 3,826, with another 11,851 injured.

Rescue teams have recently recovered around 70 bodies from under the rubble in two villages in the Bint Jbeil District in Nabatieh.

As search and recovery operations continue in areas that had remained inaccessible during the fighting, the toll is likely to rise further.
