Civilizational exchanges serve as a bridge for fostering consensus and enhancing mutual trust, and are crucial to building a more just and equitable global governance system, a Chinese official said on Wednesday.
Jin Xin, deputy head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at a press conference introducing a white paper titled "More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China's Principles, Proposals and Actions".
"Civilizational exchanges serve as a bridge and bond for building consensus and enhancing mutual trust, and are vital to the development of a more just and equitable global governance system," said Jin.
China supports the United Nations in playing its role as the main platform for dialogue among civilizations and supports the establishment of an "International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations" by the UN General Assembly.
China hosted Global Civilizations Dialogue Ministerial Meeting and set up multiple international platforms, including the World Conference of Classics, to encourage the participation of political parties, think tanks, youths, women, and civil society organizations into the dialogue.
A multi-tiered, multi-sectoral framework for dialogue among civilizations is gradually taking shape, said Jin.
China has been stepping up its efforts in cultural heritage protection and cultural development, and has signed cooperation agreements with over 100 countries on joint archaeology research, world heritage preservation, and translation of masterpieces — all of which help deepen its own civilizational roots while protecting the cultural legacy of the world at large, said Jin.
"We have engaged in a wide range of international people-to-people and cultural exchanges by carrying out diverse kinds of cultural cooperation projects such as culture years, tourism years and arts festivals, with fruitful outcomes in education, technology, health, and sports. At the same time, we have continued to facilitate the flow of people between China and other countries, generating a win-win dynamic where cultural exchanges boost tourism and tourism, in turn, deepens mutual understanding," said Jin.
"Looking ahead, we will work to ensure the coordinated implementation of the Global Governance Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative by engaging in civilizational dialogue to draw wisdom for addressing global challenges, and promoting global governance through the integration of civilizations. We will actively support the UN mechanism for civilizational exchanges and firmly uphold the authority and position of the United Nations in global governance. We will also actively promote the integration of civilizational dialogue with the global governance agenda, fully leverage the guiding values of the Global Civilization Initiative, so that the power of civilization will contribute to the reform and improvement of global governance," he said.
