More than 280 officers and soldiers from the People’s Armed Police Force were deployed in Liuzhou City, south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, to assist with cleanup efforts after floodwaters receded following days of heavy rain, the municipal government said Tuesday.
The flooding, triggered by persistent downpours and rising upstream water levels, inundated homes and cut off roads in parts of the city. The situation began to ease after the flood peak passed Monday afternoon.
Soldiers from the Guangxi detachment of the People's Armed Police Force used high-pressure hoses to clean main roads, residential areas and shops, while also clearing drainage pipes to speed up water discharge.
"We carried out reconnaissance in advance and divided the affected areas into multiple teams to carry out cleanup operations, aiming to restore social order as soon as possible," said Deng Gang, deputy battalion commander of the Guangxi Detachment of the People's Armed Police Force.
By 19:30 Tuesday, the soldiers had cleaned more than 400 houses and removed more than 5,330 cubic meters of mud and debris, authorities said.
