China hopes that cooperation between other countries and Pacific island nations will truly serve regional development and stability, instead of targeting third parties or serving geopolitical purposes, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday.
Guo Jiakun, the spokesman, made the statement at a press conference in Beijing in response to a media query about the signing of an agreement between Australia and Vanuatu earlier in the day.
"China has always been committed to the principles of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, all-win outcome, openness, and inclusiveness in its practical cooperation with Pacific island countries, including Vanuatu," Guo said.
"We believe that cooperation between other nations and the Pacific island countries should truly serve the development and stability of the region, should not target any third party, and certainly should not be used for geopolitical purposes," he said.
