China has held multiple side events on human rights and global governance during the ongoing 62nd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva from June 15 to July 7.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the UNHRC's establishment.
A side event themed observations from civil society was held by the China Foundation for Human Rights Development on Monday.
Chinese and foreign experts and scholars stated that, over its 20-year history, the UNHRC has greatly advanced the global human rights cause.
China has always actively participated in UNHRC activities and is increasingly a constructive force in promoting global human rights governance, they said.
A side event titled "Advocating People-Oriented Digital Governance: Balancing Development, Security and Human Rights" showcased to the world the concrete practices of China's Global Development Initiative in responding to specific human rights challenges in the digital age, through a series of solid local empirical cases in China and around the world.
On June 17, China released a white paper titled "More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China's Proposals and Actions."
At a side event themed "Human Rights in Global Governance", panelists noted that the document once again demonstrates that China actively practices the concept of "promoting human rights through development", participates in global human rights cooperation, and promotes the building of a more just, fair, reasonable and inclusive global human rights governance system.
Panelists stressed that the Global Governance Initiative has charted a course for advancing the reform of the global human rights governance system.
