In the wake of two devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela, Chinese enterprises operating in the country, especially those in the pharmaceutical and medical equipment sectors, have jumped into action to ensure critical medical devices, such as ventilators, are up and running in key hospitals across the capital city, safeguarding the lives of quake victims.
On June 24, twin tremors measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude struck the Latin American country, impacting even local offices of Chinese firms. Under the premise of ensuring safety, employees of a Chinese enterprise, alongside Venezuelan engineers, sifted through their offices and warehouses to sort out the necessary materials for ventilator maintenance. They prepared to head to hospitals for crucial inspections and repairs.
"Starting from the day after the earthquake, we began visiting hospitals. We visited several hospitals, mainly to check whether our equipment was operating properly. At that time, we considered that the normal operation of the equipment needed to be ensured to treat the injured. Today, we are going to a hospital which, according to the hospital medical staff, has admitted the largest number of injured people in the local area," said Li Jie, an employee from a Chinese Enterprise.
Shortly after, the Chinese team arrived at the Domingo Luciani Hospital in Caracas.
Faced with potential equipment malfunctions and emergency situations, the joint technical team composed of Chinese and Venezuelan personnel spared no effort in maintaining the normal operation of the equipment, becoming a strong pillar in safeguarding the lives of the disaster victims.
"Since this hospital has received a considerable number of victims from the epicenter area, we come to this hospital to carry out equipment maintenance and upkeep. If there are any problems that our engineers are unable to solve during the equipment maintenance and warranty process, I can immediately contact and coordinate with our domestic factory to ensure the normal operation of this equipment," said Li Tengfei, another employee of the Chinese enterprise.
While rescue operations were being carried out in an orderly and intensive manner, the Chinese team was also actively debugging and maintaining the equipment to ensure that every single device could operate efficiently and stably. Reliable Chinese medical equipment has given many quake victims and the injured a second chance at life.
