Torrential rains triggered by Typhoon Maysak have pounded parts of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region over the past few days, causing severe flooding and prompting the urgent relocation of stranded residents.

In the coastal city of Qinzhou, the local fire department received a flurry of distress calls as floodwaters rose across low-lying neighborhoods. Rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the hardest-hit areas, working through rising waters to reach trapped households. By Sunday evening, authorities had successfully evacuated and transferred 211 people to safety.

Further west in Fangchenggang City, the typhoon sent rivers surging above warning levels. Police officers were deployed to flooded sections of road, coordinating an orderly evacuation of trapped residents.

Meanwhile, in the regional capital Nanning, persistent downpours on Sunday prompted the maritime safety administration to raise its emergency response to Level III. All 97 ferry crossings across the city were ordered to halt operations, while passenger vessels and rafts at seven water-based scenic spots were suspended as a precaution.

Typhoon Maysak, the 10th typhoon of the year, made a second landfall on Saturday night along the coast near the border between Guangxi and northern Vietnam, after first striking the island province of Hainan.

Direct flights operated by Spring Airlines between Taiwan's Kaohsiung and Ningbo of Zhejiang Province resumed on Saturday, marking the latest restoration of cross-Strait air services. This route will operate twice a week, with flights scheduled every Tuesday and Saturday.

Spring Airlines said passengers traveling between the two cities previously had to make transfers, with one-way journeys usually taking more than five hours. With the resumption of direct flights, travel time has been shortened to around two hours, greatly improving travel efficiency.

Several mainland airlines have recently resumed direct cross-Strait routes. China Eastern Airlines resumed direct flights between Taichung and Chengdu on July 1, while Shandong Airlines is expected to resume direct flights between Taichung and Qingdao on July 23.

China Eastern said the first resumed flight from Taichung to Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan Province, had carried 163 passengers. Local tourism operators said that, thanks to the restoration of direct flights, bookings for tours from Taichung to Sichuan are already extended several months ahead.

On April 12, the Chinese mainland rolled out a package of 10 policies and measures, spanning inter-party communication, infrastructure, travel, trade and culture, aimed at boosting exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan.
