Senior official urges building sci-tech strength in 2026-2030

Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Cai Qi on Wednesday called on the country's sci-tech workers to stay committed to building China's strength in science and technology during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).

Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while addressing the second plenary meeting of the 11th national congress of the China Association for Science and Technology in Beijing.

Cai said the 15th Five-Year Plan period is a crucial stage for overcoming the challenges in building China's strength in science and technology, and he hopes the sci-tech workers will stay committed to serving the country with their expertise and promoting opening-up and cooperation in the field of science and technology.

Cai called on science and technology associations at all levels to play the guiding role through Party building, while urging Party committees and governments at all levels to strengthen and improve their leadership over the work of the association.

Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang met with foreign experts who won the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award for the year 2025 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday, and presented them with medals.

On behalf of the Chinese government, Ding, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, extended congratulations to the award recipients, and thanked them for their significant contributions to China's sci-tech progress and innovative development.

Ding expressed his hope that the foreign experts will deepen exchanges and cooperation with Chinese scientists to jointly tackle challenges in the sci-tech field and promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.

Nine foreign experts won the 2025 International Science and Technology Cooperation Award. A total of 155 foreign experts, three international organizations, and one foreign organization have received this honor since its inception in 1995.
