Typhoon Bavi, the ninth typhoon of the year, continued to move northward in China on Monday, stirring up huge waves in the coastal city of Dalian, Liaoning Province in the northeast.
The province's marine early warning and monitoring center issued a level-IV alert for sea waves and a level-II alert for storm surge at 08:00 on Monday.
According to the center, huge waves, three to four meters in height, are expected to hit the northern Yellow Sea from Monday morning to Tuesday morning, while the waters east of the Liaodong Peninsula will see waves as high as two to three meters. Additionally, coastal water levels in Liaoning are expected to rise by 40 to 90 centimeters due to storm surge.
At a sculpture park in Dalian's Ganjingzi District, huge waves have eroded the embankment, and the pavements have been damaged by seawater.
To ensure people's safety, local authorities have cordoned off multiple coastal areas in Dalian.
