Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.29 percent to 3,955.58 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.97 percent lower at 14,779.4 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at 2.59 trillion yuan (about 381.39 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.72 trillion yuan in the previous trading day.
Pharmaceuticals, healthcare, Chinese liquor and gaming stocks led the gains, while stocks related to semiconductor chips, glass substrates and CPO were among the biggest decliners.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.21 percent to close at 3,804.7 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 3.48 percent lower at 2,185.42 points on Wednesday.
