Chinese President Xi Jinping has steered China-Kazakhstan relations to a historic high, elevating bilateral ties to a permanent comprehensive strategic partnership, a member of the Kazakh parliament said Wednesday in Astana, Kazakhstan's capital.

Addressing an event promoting the fifth volume of "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China", Islam Sunkar, a member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan's eighth convocation, praised Xi's leadership in strengthening relations between the two countries.

"Under the political strategic guidance of the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, bilateral relations between China and Kazakhstan have been elevated to a new height, evolving into a permanent comprehensive strategic partnership," he said.

Sunkar said China's development offers valuable inspiration.

"The Communist Party of China has traversed a glorious journey of 105 years. China's development trajectory demonstrates that strategic vision, long-term planning, sound state institutions, a strong sense of responsibility on the part of the government toward its people, as well as unwavering resolve and sustained commitment to achieving set goals are of paramount importance," he said.

During the event, the Chinese side presented Kazakh guests with copies of the Kazakh edition of the fourth volume and the Russian edition of the fifth volume of "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China."

Representatives from think tanks, enterprises and universities from both countries shared stories of how practical cooperation has benefited local communities. Participating experts exchanged views on topics including the China-Kazakhstan community with a shared future and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

The event was jointly organized by China's State Council Information Office, China International Communications Group and the Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan. More than 200 representatives from publishing houses, media organizations, think tanks, universities, enterprises and other sectors from both countries attended the event.

The U.S. military on Wednesday conducted a new round of strikes against Iran, U.S. Central Command said.

"At 3 p.m. ET (1900 GMT), U.S. forces launched operations for a second wave of strikes today against Iran," the command wrote in a post on X. "The strikes are targeting Iranian military capabilities used to threaten vessels freely transiting through the Strait of Hormuz."

Earlier on Wednesday, the command said that it had begun launching a wave of strikes against Iran at 6 a.m. Eastern Time (1000 GMT). During the 90-minute wave, the forces launched precision munitions against coastal defense systems and cruise missile storage and launch sites on Greater Tunb Island.

On Tuesday, the United States conducted a series of strikes against Iran after resuming a naval blockade of its ports in the strait.

Late Tuesday, the U.S. military said it had hit dozens of military targets, including missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, and coastal defense systems, near the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian coastal areas in strikes lasting seven hours.
