Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar in China's Shanghai on Thursday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, welcomed Dar, who is in China to attend the ongoing World Artificial Intelligence Conference and sign an agreement on establishing the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) on behalf of the Pakistani government.
Pakistan's accession to WAICO will serve the long-term interests of Pakistan and its people, Wang said.
"As a responsible major country, China is ready to take up its international obligations and work with like-minded countries to strengthen cooperation on AI and develop AI for good and for all. It is particularly important that we are helping more and more Global South countries to participate and benefit fairly in this new wave of AI development to prevent another divide in AI in the world and so that humanity can progress and develop together," said Wang.
For his part, Dar said the establishment of WAICO is a great initiative proposed by China, adding that Pakistan is honored to be a founding member of the organization and looks forward to strengthening cooperation with China in the field of artificial intelligence.
Dar also spoke of the nations' close ties and called for the two sides to advance the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
"The friendship and brotherhood of Pakistan and China is not the only example, (but) I think there's hardly any other parallel example people can give to the depth, the affection, the love in our relationship. So, we cherish it. People of Pakistan cherish it. You have been a great supporter of Pakistan, all materials for us, and in all fields. So I have no words to thank you for all your cooperation," said Dar.
