The Cross-strait forum alongside a supporting exhibition was held on Saturday at the ongoing 2026 World AI Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai to explore the integrated development of AI innovation on both sides of the Strait.

Running from Friday to Monday, the 2026 World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance features more than 140 forums and an exhibition area exceeding 100,000 square meters, with over 1,100 enterprises participating.

Organized under the auspices of the Cross-Strait Economic, Science and Technology Cooperation Center, the forum brought together industry experts and practitioners from leading enterprises. Discussions delved deeply into how AI can empower manufacturing and medical industries. An adjacent exhibition area featured over 20 representative Taiwanese AI companies, showcasing cutting-edge technologies. Through this exchange platform, both sides are actively exploring broader cooperation opportunities.

During on-site exchanges, many Taiwan tech innovators highlighted the natural complementarity between the two sides' AI industries. They observed that the Chinese mainland's complete industrial supply chains and rich application scenarios offer a vast stage for the commercialization of AI technologies.

"The (Chinese) mainland possesses a fully integrated industrial chain, from product operations and scenario applications to industrial design. Taiwan, on the other hand, has built a solid foundation in these areas over the years. I believe this creates substantial space for practical cross-Strait collaboration in the near future," said Huang Boxiang, a postdoctoral researcher at Tsinghua University.

By leveraging technological innovation as a bridge and industrial synergy as a driving force, the deepening of cross-Strait scientific and technological exchanges and integrated sci-tech innovation is expected to accelerate the rollout of cooperative outcomes and foster mutual benefits and shared progress in AI and beyond.
