Thai PM arrives in Beijing to continue official visit to China

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul arrived in Beijing on Sunday.

Beijing is the final stop of his five-day official visit to China which started Thursday.

He is expected to meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

The visit marks Anutin's first official visit to China since taking office as prime minister.

He was in Shanghai for the 2026 World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

On Saturday, Anutin attended the Thailand-China (Sichuan) Investment and Economic Forum in Chengdu City of southwest China's Sichuan Province. He delivered a keynote speech, reaffirming the strong partnership between the two countries. He also held meetings with senior executives from major Chinese companies, including Xiaomi and Changan Automobile.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 2.28 percent lower at 1,894.63 points on Monday.

The STAR 50 Index, which tracks the 50 largest stocks listed on the board that also meet certain liquidity requirements, closed 0.19 percent higher at 1,718.69 points.

The sci-tech innovation board, commonly known as the STAR Market, was inaugurated in June 2019 at Shanghai Stock Exchange. It is designed to support companies in the high-tech and strategic emerging sectors.
