Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov on Thursday ahead of the Meeting of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States in Kyrgyzstan.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said China and Belarus are trustworthy partners. Under the strategic guidance of their presidents, the China-Belarus all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership has maintained strong momentum in recent years, with fruitful cooperation achieved across various fields.
Next year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Belarus, Wang said. Standing at a new historical starting point, China is ready to work with Belarus to follow the direction charted by the two heads of state, strengthen exchanges at all levels, enhance the alignment of development strategies, deepen exchanges on governance experience, promote the high-quality development of bilateral relations, advance all-round cooperation, and deliver greater benefits to the two peoples.
Wang said mutual support is an essential feature of the China-Belarus all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership. China will, as always, support Belarus in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions, and oppose external interference in Belarus's internal affairs under any pretext.
He said Belarus has consistently stood firmly with China on issues concerning China's core interests, which China highly appreciates.
Wang congratulated Belarus on becoming a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization. He said China looks forward to strengthening coordination with Belarus within the SCO framework, advancing the establishment of the "four centers" in the security field and the preparation for the SCO Development Bank, and promoting the SCO's entry into a new stage of high-quality development.
Ryzhenkov said the two heads of state have maintained close, high-level exchanges, leading bilateral relations to an unprecedented level and forging ironclad, brotherly mutual trust. He thanked China for its long-standing support and assistance, saying Belarus will remain firmly committed to developing relations with China, advancing comprehensive cooperation and drawing on China's successful experience.
He said Belarus looks forward to taking the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with China in such areas as industry, investment and information technology, while expanding subnational and people-to-people exchanges.
Belarus is honored to have joined the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization and is willing to maintain close communication and coordination with China on multilateral platforms including the SCO. Facts have proven that Belarus has chosen the right path, and the two countries enjoy even broader prospects for future cooperation, he added.
The two sides also signed the 2026-2027 Consultation Plan between the Foreign Ministries of China and Belarus.
