U.S. stocks close mixed

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 262.83 points, or 0.51 percent, to 52,210.08. The Standard and Poor's 500 added 1.2 points, or 0.02 percent, to 7,413.18. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 43.74 points, or 0.18 percent, to 24,932.08.

Seven of the 11 primary Standard and Poor's 500 sectors ended in the green, with consumer staples and communication services leading the gainers by rising 1.58 percent and 1.46 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and utilities led the laggards by falling 2.01 percent and 1.32 percent, respectively.

European stocks closed higher across the board on Monday.

The United Kingdom's FTSE 100 index rose 0.42 percent to close at 10,781.75 points. France's CAC 40 index gained 0.40 percent to finish at 8,406.06 points. Germany's DAX index advanced 1.04 percent to end the session at 25,361.03 points.
