3rd Chinese medical expert team arrives in DR Congo to support Ebola response

The third batch of Chinese anti-epidemic medical expert team arrived in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), on Saturday to continue the work of the previous two teams and assist local efforts in combating the epidemic.

Luku Maleyo Marius, a representative of the DR Congo's Ministry of Health, welcomed the team at the airport.

He said that the current epidemic prevention and control situation remains severe, and the arrival of the Chinese experts provides timely and strong support for the DR Congo.

Marius hoped that the two sides will further deepen their anti-epidemic cooperation, building on the foundation laid by the previous missions.

The Chinese government decided to dispatch high-level medical expert teams after the World Health Organization determined on May 17 that the Ebola outbreak in the DR Congo constituted a "public health emergency of international concern."

The second Chinese medical team was dispatched on July 3, and the first on June 2.

According to China's National Health Commission, the third expert team will conduct in-depth technical guidance at the grassroots level, improve local epidemic response procedures, strengthen the joint prevention and control mechanism, and further expand the outcomes of the assistance work.

According to the latest figures released on Friday by the country's public health authorities, the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the DRC had risen to 3,532, with 1,556 confirmed deaths.

Tianjin Municipality issued a yellow alert for high temperatures on Sunday.

The city's meteorological observatory said the central urban districts are expected to experience maximum daytime temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius over the next three days. Localized scattered showers and thunderstorms are also forecast.

Following several consecutive rainy days, humidity levels in Tianjin have remained high.

Meteorologists said both temperatures and humidity are expected to rise further in the coming days, bringing hot and muggy conditions across the city.
