A coastal wetland park in Beihai City of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has seen steady recovery of the local ecosystem, with the documentation of more than 200 bird species so far this year.
Among the highlights, park staff of the Binhai National Wetland Park have recently captured footages of two rare species, the Lesser Coucal and the Oriental Scops Owl, for the first time on record at the site. The Lesser Coucal and the Oriental Scops Owl are both classified as national second-class protected animals under state wildlife protection laws in China.
The growing number of newly observed birds underscores the wetland's improving health and its vital role as a stopover for migratory birds.
