Chinese shares close lower Thursday

Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.50 percent to 3,926.96 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.87 percent lower at 14,289.44 points.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, dropped 0.45 percent to close at 3,586.04 points.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 0.75 percent higher at 2,004.58 points.

Hong Kong's stock market ended lower Thursday with the benchmark Hang Seng Index down 0.17 percent to close at 25,396.51 points.

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index shed 0.23 percent to 8,426.49 points, and the Hang Seng Tech Index gained 0.33 percent to 4,792.39 points.
