Two levee breaches in central China's Henan Province were successfully sealed on Friday night after days of emergency repair work.
One of the breaches measured more than 10 meters wide and occurred along the Qingyi River in Yanling County on Thursday morning after heavy rainfall washed away a farmland flood drainage gate.
Local authorities dispatched over 300 personnel, including experts and rescue teams, along with 40 units of heavy machinery to the site.
"After sealing the breach, we will carry out follow-up work to ensure that the levee is restored as closely as possible to its original appearance," said Li Dongsen, chairman of Xiaolangdi North Bank Irrigation Area Engineering, a company under the Henan Water Conservancy Investment Group.
The other breach, measuring 117 meters wide, was successfully sealed in Chuanhui District, Zhoukou City.
The breach occurred at around 23:00 Thursday along the Jialu River in Zhoukou City, following heavy rain unleashed by Typhoon Dolphin.
The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters and the Ministry of Emergency Management have sent a work team to guide the emergency response and dispatched engineering rescue teams and equipment to the site.
After the sealing, rescue teams said they will continue to reinforce the overall structure of the levee to ensure its flood safety.
The breaches came as Henan was lashed by torrential downpours brought by the remnants of Typhoon Dolphin, the year's 13th typhoon that landed in east China last Sunday.
The central government has allocated 30,000 items of relief supplies, including folding beds, summer quilts and family emergency kits, to support relief and resettlement efforts in Zhoukou, Xuchang and other affected areas in Henan.
