Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi has hailed in a recent interview China's role in maintaining world peace and security, adding that Jordan looks forward to working with China and other partners to uphold the purposes and principles of the United Nations (UN) Charter.
Safadi told China Central Television (CCTV) that securing a safe future for all requires unwavering respect for international law, international legitimacy resolutions, and the UN Charter.
"I believe that respect for international law, respect for the UN Charter, respect for international legitimacy resolutions is the foundation for maintaining the stability of the world order that is based on respect for law. Therefore, China has a leading role. China, as a member of the UN Security Council, has important influence and weight in the political and economic fields. Jordan also plays its own role, and has a history of respecting international law and international humanitarian law, and cooperates with all partners to ensure a secure future for everyone. To ensure this secure future, it is necessary to respect international law, respect international legitimacy resolutions, and the UN Charter. So, we look forward to working with China and other partners to ensure that everyone abides by these principles, because respecting international law is in the interest of everyone," he said.
Turning to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Safadi warned that impunity in one case inevitably undermines the credibility of the entire international legal order.
"When a place allows violations of international law, it becomes very difficult to prevent similar violations in another place. From the very beginning of Israel's war in the Gaza Strip, we have been warning that international law must be respected. We have pointed out that violations of international law and international humanitarian law undermine the entire international collective work system, and such behavior must be clearly confronted," he said.
Safadi reiterated Jordan's commitment to collective action and its expectation that countries will continue to play a key role in respecting international law.
"As I said, we must work together to respect the international system that we all recognize — that is, the international system based on international law, international legitimacy resolutions, and the UN Charter. Jordan will continue to work to emphasize this point. And as I said, China also plays an important role in this regard. We hope that in the international community, everyone can work together to ensure compliance with international law, thereby guaranteeing security and stability for all," he said.
