China's STAR Composite Index closes flat Tuesday

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed flat at 1,896.08 points on Tuesday.

The STAR 50 Index, which tracks the 50 largest stocks listed on the board that also meet certain liquidity requirements, closed 0.14 percent higher at 1,604.59 points.

The sci-tech innovation board, commonly known as the STAR Market, was inaugurated in June 2019 at Shanghai Stock Exchange. It is designed to support companies in the high-tech and strategic emerging sectors.

Chinese stocks closed mixed on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.19 percent to 3,889.44 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.35 percent lower at 13,745.87 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at around 1.83 trillion yuan (about 269.7 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.01 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares related to small home appliances, agriculture and innovative medicines led the gains.

Sectors including precious metals, lithium mining and banking were among the biggest decliners.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1 percent to close at 3,397.52 points.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed flat at 1,896.08 points.
