China's top legislature started a regular session on Tuesday to review a number of draft laws and revisions.
Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, presided over the first plenary meeting of the committee's 24th session.
Lawmakers at the meeting deliberated on a slew of draft laws, including a draft law against cross-border corruption, a draft law on healthcare security, and a draft law on farmland protection and quality improvement, as well as draft revisions to the Agriculture Law, the National Defense Mobilization Law, the Enterprise Bankruptcy Law, the Law on the Regulation of and Supervision over the Banking Industry, and the Water Law.
They also deliberated on a draft amendment to the lawyers law, and review proposals submitted for deliberation by the State Council on a draft revision to the road traffic safety law, and on the approval of an extradition treaty between China and Hungary.
The lawmakers heard reports on the implementation of the national economic and social development plan and the execution of the central government's budget since the beginning of this year, a report on the management of government debt in 2025, and a supervision and research report on the management of government debt in 2025.
They also heard reports on improving the quality of cultural products and services, consolidating and expanding poverty alleviation gains and advancing all-around rural revitalization, and the qualifications of some NPC deputies at the meeting.
