Nepal mudslide death toll rises to 794: police

The death toll from the devastating mudslide in Nepal had risen to 794 as of 17:45 local time Sunday, according to the latest figures released by the Nepal Police.

The disaster struck northern Nepal on Wednesday. That same day, the Nepalese government designated several local administrative units in the affected areas as disaster crisis zones for a period of three months, a move aimed at facilitating resources deployment, strengthening personnel management, and accelerating post-disaster recovery efforts.

Chinese President Xi Jinping received a warm and elaborate traditional welcome upon landing in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Sunday.

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and his wife Aigul Japarova greeted Xi and Xi's wife Peng Liyuan at the airport with a vibrant ceremony featuring traditional Kyrgyz element, such as golden eagles, hunting dogs, and horse-mounted guards.

Xi arrived in Bishkek for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2026 and a state visit to Kyrgyzstan.
