Japan should take on its responsibility, severely punish the perpetrator, and thoroughly investigate the case of the Chinese embassy intrusion, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a press briefing in Beijing on Monday.
Guo made the remarks in response to a media query about the statement of Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) on Friday that it had dismissed the officer who broke into the Chinese Embassy in Japan with a knife earlier this year.
"A serving officer of Japan's Self-Defense Forces carried a knife, broke into the Chinese Embassy and gave out violent threats to the Chinese side. This egregious incident is unprecedented, which seriously violated the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and posed a grave threat to the personal safety of Chinese diplomatic personnel and security of China's diplomatic facilities. It also exposed the rampant right-wing forces in Japan, the lack of effective management and education over Self-Defense Forces personnel, and many other deep-seated problems. We have noted that the Japanese side has prosecuted the person involved in the case. We urge the Japanese side to earnestly shoulder its responsibility, severely punish the perpetrator, thoroughly investigate the case and make rectifications. The international community is also waiting to see," said Guo.
