Cal Quantrill continues strong run, Corey Seager homers as Rangers blank Rays 6-0

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Cal Quantrill allowed two singles and two walks in seven innings, and Corey Seager hit a two-run homer as the Texas Rangers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-0 on Thursday night.

Quantrill (7-5) has a 1.25 ERA over eight outings, including seven starts, since July 28 at Tampa Bay. His ERA in seven career starts against the Rays is 1.77.

Jakob Junis and Chase Silseth finished the combined three-hitter, Texas' 13th shutout this season.

Seager’s blast to right field in the fifth inning followed Ezequiel Duran’s flare to right that scored Logan O’Hoppe. Seager previously hit balls to the warning track in left and center.

The Rangers (70-71) are one-half game behind Cleveland for the AL’s final wild-card spot and trail first-place Houston in the West by two games.

Tampa Bay’s Shane McClanahan (10-7) allowed four runs in five innings. McClanahan hasn’t made it through six innings since July 8.

The Rays matched a season low in hits as they were shut out for the eighth time this season. With the AL’s best record at 83-57, they lead the East by three games over the New York Yankees. They’re 9-11 since Aug. 14 after an 18-4 stretch.

Texas took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Wyatt Langford doubled into the left field corner and scored on Justin Foscue’s single to left.

The Rangers added two runs in the eighth when Evan Carter tripled home Langford and scored on Jake Burger's sacrifice fly.

The Rays have lost 10 consecutive games at Globe Life Field. Their most recent win at the park came on June 2, 2022.

Friday night’s game will pit Rays RHP Nick Martinez (13-4, 2.99 ERA), whose first four big league seasons were spent with Texas, against Rangers RHP Kumar Rocker (5-10, 4.44).

Fox News Media has parted ways with politically influential financial journalist Maria Bartiromo after more than a decade, the company announced Thursday hours after Fox Business Network aired the final episode of the show that bears her name. The company did not specify the reasons for her separation.

“We thank Maria for her work over the last 12½ years,” a Fox statement read, “and wish her all the best on her next chapter.”

There was no immediate reaction from Bartiromo. Her X account still showed a banner photo Thursday afternoon encouraging people to “grab yourself a cup of coffee, and join us every morning for Mornings With Maria.”

On his Truth Social platform late Thursday, President Donald Trump wrote: “I can’t believe Maria Bartiromo is no longer going to have her great show(s) on FoxNews/Business. Three different shows, always number one. Maria is a total professional, and a true warrior. Her fans, of which there are many, will not be happy. God bless you, Maria!”

Other high-profile, on-air personalities that have left Fox News Media in recent years include Tucker Carlson and Bill O’Reilly. Former Fox personality Pete Hegseth left the network in 2024 after being nominated as Trump's secretary of defense.

Bartiromo hosted “Mornings with Maria” on Fox Business Network, the last episode of which aired Thursday morning, as well as “Maria Bartiromo's Wall Street.”

The first show will be renamed “Mornings with Fox Business” and will feature rotating anchors, the company said in its statement. The second will be renamed “FBN's Wall Street” and will also use rotating anchors. Additionally, Bartiromo’s weekly Fox News show “Sunday Morning Futures” will be hosted by Jason Chaffetz for the time being.

Bartiromo has frequently earned praise from Trump, who has granted her multiple interviews over the years. He has called her a “great reporter.” Vice President JD Vance, talking with reporters Thursday afternoon, was asked about her departure but said he had not talked to her and didn't know the back story.

“I love Maria. I think she's an amazing person, an amazing talent," Vance said. “Whatever she does, she's gonna do great, and I wish her all the best. She's a very, very dear friend.”

In 2025, a lawsuit against Fox News by voting technology company Smartmatic alleged that Bartiromo spread false rumors about claims of election fraud on the air — a notion she had vehemently rejected.

Bartiromo had said before an earlier lawsuit involving Fox and Dominion Voting Systems that it’s “absurd” to think that she personally lobbied former Attorney General William Barr to aggressively investigate Trump’s charges of voter fraud during the 2020 election. Instead, she said she was doing a journalist’s job in asking follow-up questions. That case was settled in 2023.

Before Fox, Bartiromo worked for CNBC for 20 years as a financial journalist. Previously to that, she worked for CNN. At CNBC, she pioneered daily live reporting from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange and won an Emmy Award for a documentary about Google.
