Hong Kong-born astronaut Lai Ka-ying has just conducted a science class with students from China's Tiangong space station--a moment that has been hard‑won.

For decades, the U.S. has dominated space leadership and refused to share core technology with China. So China decided to independently develop the Tiangong space station, turning technological breakthroughs into new engines for future industries.

Since 2021, 11 crews totaling 33 astronauts have lived aboard Tiangong, setting a world record for the longest single spacewalk duration, and cultivating two consecutive generations of rice for the first time.

But Tiangong is more than a lab; it's home. While the International Space Station mainly supplies pre-packaged food, our astronauts have a space oven and can enjoy freshly baked barbecue anytime. They can also enjoy homestyle cuisines - all made possible by China's space technology.

When the ISS retires around 2030, China’s Tiangong will be the only station in orbit. Yet its doors are open to international partners: 17 countries have had their science experiments selected, and Pakistani astronauts are now training and learning Chinese to board Tiangong soon.

Today, Tiangong guards our space safety, powers tech innovation, and also opens a shared platform for all of humanity to explore the cosmos.

Electricity is essential to our daily lives. For over a decade, China has been the world’s largest green power producer, with over 80% of its solar and wind energy generated in the western region.

But sunlight and wind can’t be barreled like petroleum or gas; they aren’t available 24 hours a day. So we need to store the energy in these storage stations.

Storage is only the first step. Transmitting electricity thousands of kilometers from the northwest to the southeast with ordinary highvoltage wires, would mean losing most of the power during the process.

40 years ago, China started developing ultrahigh voltage (UHV) transmission, which carries 4 to 6 times the capacity of conventional lines, with a loss of less than 3%. From Xinjiang to Anhui — 3,293 kilometers, roughly the distance from Hong Kong to Hokkaido — the electricity arrives in just 0.01 seconds.

China is the only country that can master and apply UHV on such a massive scale. Since 2009, we have built 42 projects, with the total length enough to circle the equator.


Today, China has also established the world’s first complete set of UHV AC standards. Our technology and equipment have been exported to South America, the Middle East, and Africa — turning Chinese standards into global standards.
