Delegations from nearly 100 countries, regions and international organizations are to attend the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, said Jiang Bin, spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, at a press conference Monday in Beijing.

"The 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum will officially open tomorrow, and all preparatory work has been completed. Representatives from different countries are arriving in Beijing. This year's forum will bring together official delegations from nearly 100 countries, regions and international organizations, as well as experts and scholars from China and abroad, including over 60 representatives at the ministerial level or above and military chiefs of general staff or above. The broad geographical coverage and strong representativeness of the participants reflect the forum's long-standing value of openness and inclusiveness," Jiang said.

"In this beautiful season of golden September and on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Beijing Xiangshan Forum, we warmly welcome the arrival of guests from home and abroad, to build consensus on stability, advance security governance together, and bring more peace and hope to a world marked by intertwined changes and challenges," he said.

Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng Index increased by about 0.5 percent on Monday as calls by top executives of major U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) developers to slow the pace of AI development triggered selling off of related shares, according to Timothy Pope, an analyst for China Global Television Network (CGTN).

The Hang Seng Index up 0.45 percent to close at 24,917.60 points, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 0.46 percent to end at 8,284.58 points, and the Hang Seng Tech Index shed 0.06 percent to end at 4,317.94 points.

"Today the Hang Seng [Index] did remarkably well, rising about half of one percent despite the pressure on AI stocks elsewhere in the region. Z.AI though was the big drag today. It dropped 9.1 percent after announcing a discounted share placement as part of a 5-billion U.S. dollar fundraising plan and that put quite a bit of pressure on the tech side of the market in Hong Kong," said Pope.

Pope noted that fast-fashion retailer Shein was also among the biggest losers on the day.

"Fast-fashion retailer Shein also shed 9.1 percent - not a great look just before it's due to join the Hang Seng Composite Index tonight. It's being fast-tracked onto that index just two weeks after its IPO (initial public offering) but has been really losing ground pretty steadily since that listing and is now trading about 25 percent below its offering price," he said.
