The grand opening ceremony brought together global dignitaries, Hong Kong SAR officials, Greater Bay Area (GBA) representatives, and event organizers to discuss public health, Hong Kong's innovation ecosystem, and regional integration. Mr. John KC Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR, sent a congratulatory message themed "A Convergence of Global Minds in Biotechnology, Advancing on the Road to Life Science Excellence and Future Prosperity," calling for collective action to shape the industry's future. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations, also sent his congratulations, commending Hong Kong's role as a "Super Connector" and calling for deeper international collaboration to accelerate innovation delivery.

In his opening address, Prof. Albert Yu, President of BIOHK2026, reviewed the event's 5-year evolution into a global nexus for life sciences innovation, emphasizing its role in driving ideas toward market deployment. Mr. Leung Chun-ying, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, highlighted opportunities under China's 15th Five-Year Plan and the Nansha Guangdong-Hong Kong cooperation framework.

Key government leaders, including Prof. Sun Dong, Secretary for Hong Kong Innovation, Technology and Industry, and Prof. Lo Chung-mau, Secretary for Hong Kong Health Bureau, shared insights on policy support and cross-border regulatory harmonization. Meanwhile, Mr. Chen Xu, Executive Deputy Director of the Guangzhou GBA Office, and Mr. Liu Chuwen, Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission, presented their cities' biotech foundations and cross-regional integration ideas based on Greater Bay Area integration.

Marking a major partnership milestone at the ceremony, CITIC Group, the Exclusive Strategic Partner of BIOHK2026, unveiled the CITIC Healthcare Industry Think Tank and signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Hong Kong Biotechnology Organization (HKBIO). The agreement aims to build a cross-border industry-finance platform that accelerates the deployment of global biotech ventures. Additionally, the opening ceremony presented annual industry honors to celebrate pioneering individuals, outstanding enterprises, and key partners for their achievements in technical breakthroughs, commercialization, and cross-border collaboration.

Standing at the 5-year time node, BIOHK2026 embraces dual development opportunities: Hong Kong is planning its next five-year growth blueprint, while China enters a brand-new phase under the 15th 5-Year Plan. Life sciences represent both a national strategic emerging industry and a key technology track prioritized by Hong Kong; the development of BIOHK resonates synchronously with Hong Kong's urban positioning and the national demand for biotech innovation.

Over the coming days, collisions of ideas, project negotiations, and showcase achievements will continue to take place at the Exhibition Centre. BIOHK2026 has long evolved beyond the scope of a mere industry event—it serves not only as a hub for technical and intellectual exchange, but also as a venue for international regulatory dialogue and a launchpad for cross-border innovation transactions.

MANILA, Philippines, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- "Chongqing Meets Manila – A Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration" opened at SM Mall of Asia on September 12, drawing around 400 guests from political, business, cultural, educational and tourism circles of both countries, along with overseas Chinese and students.

Hosted by the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines and the Information Office of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government and organized by the Western China International Communication Organization (WCICO), the two-day festival features a cultural performance, seven themed exhibitions and city and brand presentations, bringing Bayu culture, Mid-Autumn traditions, Chongqing cuisine and "Made in Chongqing" innovations to Manila.

Zhou Zhiyong, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines, said: "For a thousand years, the Maritime Silk Road has brought not only trade in goods, but also exchanges in culture, art, ideas and friendship between China and the Philippines. Today, through an event, a conversation, a dish and a smile, we come to know each other better and grow closer."

Maria Christina G. Aquino, Assistant Secretary of the Philippine Department of Tourism, noted that China is now the Philippines' fourth-largest tourist source market, with nearly 320,000 Chinese arrivals as of September 9. "I have already tasted some of them in advance, and they were all delicious," she said of the mooncakes on site.

Wu Changfan, Deputy Director-General of the Publicity Department of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, said the festival turns the May online encounter into an in-person gathering, and that Chongqing looks forward to deeper cooperation with Manila in people-to-people exchanges, tourism promotion and trade, welcoming more Filipino friends to experience "Majestic Landscapes, Dynamic Chongqing."

The performances won warm applause, while booths on intangible heritage, "Study in Chongqing," traditional Chinese food and new energy vehicles drew steady crowds.

At the "China, An Opportunity: Chongqing Brands" promotion conference, Zhang Li of the CPC Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Committee highlighted new energy vehicles and HIFU technology already benefiting Philippine patients, as Happyyou International Travel signed a cooperation agreement with Philippine tourism organizations. Southwest University, Changan Automobile and Air China also presented study, industry and direct-flight opportunities.

A continuation of the May "Flying Across Mountains and Seas" twin-city campaign, the festival provides a face-to-face platform for Chongqing and the Philippines to explore cooperation in culture and tourism, education, automotive and beyond.
