U.S. dollar ticks up

The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.64 percent to 100.252 at 15:00 (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.1470 U.S. dollars from 1.1543 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound dropped to 1.3382 dollars from 1.3481 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 155.92 Japanese yen, higher than 155.09 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar climbed to 0.8250 Swiss francs from 0.8185 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3994 Canadian dollars from 1.3917 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar advanced to 9.8598 Swedish kronor from 9.7773 Swedish kronor.

European stock markets closed higher on Wednesday.

The United Kingdom's FTSE 100 index increased by 0.28 percent to close at 10,688.47 points. France's CAC 40 index gained 0.62 percent to finish at 8,140.59 points. Germany's DAX index rose 0.53 percent to end the session at 25,537.75 points.
