The 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival Gala to be broadcast by China Media Group (CMG) at 20:00 on Friday will present an audiovisual feast that integrates Chinese traditions and fascinating modern arts, sending best wishes to viewers across the world as they celebrate the joy of family reunions.
This year's gala continues to draw on the aesthetics of traditional Chinese culture, integrating the country's cultural heritage and the spirit of the times into its performances.
The gala will be staged in Huainan City, east China's Anhui Province, with the show's lighting being delicately designed to give audience a better view of the whole gala.
"We've achieved unobstructed visuals across the entire lake, a design that sets us apart from all previous galas. We built a wide stage across the huge lake and we will give audience a broader view," said Huang Tao, lighting designer of the gala.
Actress Wan Qian will sing a song called Autumn Breeze with Xu Huawen, which she said incorporates poetic elements like the moon and autumn breeze into the stage design.
"It features a scene beneath the moon, where I gather with a few close friends, playing musical instruments and singing -- almost like we are camping. The program creates a warm atmosphere and will also feature fireworks, which is romantic and beautiful," said Wan.
A song to be performed by Sun Nan and Tan Weiwei, two famous singers, is set to showcase the vitality of millennium-old Chinese culture and will send best wishes to viewers across the world.
"The program carries many classic touches and wishes for better life. I particularly love the segment of children's vocal and to me it is the softest and warmest part of the whole song. The Mid-Autumn Festival Gala serves as a bridge to convey our blessings to more people," said Tan.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month on the Chinese lunar calendar. Around China, people celebrate the day by gathering for moon-gazing, eating mooncakes, and lighting colorful lanterns.
