Hong Kong celebrates National Day with activities

An event featuring an array of patriotic activities has been hosted in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to mark the upcoming National Day.

China's National Day, observed on October 1, commemorates the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1949, with this year marking its 77th anniversary.

As the day approaches, the event held at a local park offered multicultural showcases to help local youth gain deeper insights into community building and national developments.

Over 100 Hong Kong young people enthusiastically engaged in activities, including hands-on experience with intangible cultural heritage crafts, creative workshops, and educational games.

Organizers expressed hope that the event would foster holistic youth development, injecting fresh vigor into Hong Kong's prosperity and national development.

"We hope to convey more warmth to our residents through arts and culture. I sincerely wish our motherland prosperity and strength, Hong Kong harmony and stability, and everyone a happy National Day and good health," said He Fan, the organizer of the event.

The lively festive atmosphere resonated deeply with people from all walks of life, drawing active participation from financial professionals who gathered with the youth to share in the joy and express confidence in Hong Kong's future.

A section of National Highway G242 in Wuxi County, southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, collapsed on Monday following days of heavy rainfall, prompting local authorities to close the road and seal off the area.

The collapsed section, about 15 meters long and 3 meters wide, saw half of its roadbed fallen and washed away by torrential floodwater, leaving the pavement severely damaged.

Local government and public security departments swiftly closed the section after the danger was detected, barring vehicles and pedestrians from the hazardous zone to prevent possible secondary disasters.

As raingfall continues, conditions are not yet safe for personnel or machinery to enter the affected area. Repair work will begin once the rain stops, river water levels recede, and the mountain and roadbed are fully stabilized, according to authorities.

The Chongqing Municipal Hydrological Monitoring Station reported that from 8:00 a.m. Monday to 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, most of Chongqing saw moderate to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing torrential downpours. The rainfall caused 37 small and medium-sized rivers to see their water levels rise by 1 to 5 meters, with five exceeding warning levels. As of 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, the water levels on all of the rivers have fallen back to below the alert threshold.
