The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in southwest China’s Guizhou Province, the world’s highest bridge, has become a major tourism landmark one year after its opening, attracting large numbers of visitors during the week-long National Day holiday.
The bridge has been certified by Guinness World Records as the world's highest bridge, with a confirmed height of 626.01 meters.
Located in the mountainous terrain of southwest China, the steel-truss suspension bridge is a key project on the Liuzhi-Anlong Expressway in Guizhou. It opened to traffic on Sept 28, 2025. This September marked its one-year anniversary of its opening to traffic.
During the National Day holiday, a range of cultural and tourism attractions opened simultaneously, including a sightseeing corridor, a glass viewing platform, high-altitude bungee jumping and a cloud-top cafe, drawing visitors from home and abroad to immerse themselves in the canyon scenery more than 600 meters above the ground.
The Yundu Service Area has added new food stalls and cultural and creative product booths this year, along with offerings such as bridge-themed coffee and tea. A newly upgraded nighttime water-curtain light show is also a highlight, offering tourists a rich variety of experiences.
"After the water-curtain light show, there will also be laser show and drone show. So throughout the day and night, tourists can actually enjoy a very tightly packed schedule and have an in-depth experience at the service area," said Li Can, deputy general manager of Guizhou Jiaotou Huajiang Bridge Tourism Development Co., Ltd.
Meanwhile, the Huajiang Village, adjacent to the bridge, has also seized the opportunity to transform itself. Since the start of this year, more than 20 distinctive homestays have been built, making the village an important tourism hub along the canyon. Visitors can board a boat to cruise the river and explore the scenery along the way.
