China's software and information technology (IT) service industry recorded steady growth in the first eight months of 2026, supported by rising exports and continued expansion in cloud computing and big data services, official data showed.
In the January to August period, software revenue rose 8.8 percent year on year to 10.282 trillion yuan, or about 1.53 trillion U.S. dollars, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Exports grew faster than overall revenue, climbing 12.5 percent from a year earlier to 45.99 billion U.S. dollars.
The industry also reported steady profit growth in the same period, with total profit rising 1.3 percent to 1.184 trillion yuan, or about 177 billion U.S. dollars.
Meanwhile, information technology services remained the industry's largest segment, with revenue from the segment increasing by 9.6 percent and accounted for 68.7 percent of the industry total.
Within that segment, revenue from cloud computing and big data services grew by 11.1 percent, representing 17.3 percent of information technology services revenue.
In the first eight months, software product revenue rose at a slower pace of 6 percent and accounted for 21.5 percent of overall industry revenue.

The first wind power project in the Ngari Prefecture entered the grid-connection commissioning stage on Wednesday after all 10 turbines had been hoisted into place, moving the high-altitude project in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region closer to scheduled operations by year-end.
Developed by China General Nuclear Power Corp, or CGN, the wind power farm in Gerze County sits between 4,600 and 4,800 meters above the sea level, with each turbine having a capacity of 5 megawatts, bringing the project’s total installed capacity to 50 megawatts.
CGN has budgeted 280 million yuan, or about 41.6 million U.S. dollars, for the project, which also incorporates energy storage to help support the local power grid.
"The project has a planned total investment of 280 million yuan and an installed capacity of 50 megawatts. It also includes a 110-kilovolt step-up substation and a grid-forming energy storage system rated at 10 megawatts and 40 megawatt-hours. The highest turbine site is 4,765 meters above the sea level," said Liu Lanqing, manager of the CGN Gerze wind power project.
At such high altitudes, thin air and freezing temperatures left construction workers with narrow weather windows for transporting large components and hoisting turbines into place. Temperatures fell below freezing after mid-September, while strong winds and hail caused further disruption.
They monitored wind speeds in real time and continually adjusted construction schedules to take advantage of suitable conditions, allowing them to complete the hoisting of all 10 turbines as scheduled.
During the seven-day National Day holiday, more than 60 construction workers remained on duty at the project site. They are now currently carrying out project quality acceptance, booster station equipment commissioning, and other work to prepare for the subsequent grid-connected operation.
Once fully operational, the wind power farm is expected to generate 180 million kilowatt-hours of electricity a year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by the equivalent of about 150,000 metric tons annually, helping close the region's clean-energy supply gap.
