As temperatures have continued to drop in recent days, a large flock of wild swans has arrived at the Azalea River in Korla City, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to spend the winter.
The river has come alive with these swans, drawing residents and tourists who come especially to watch and photograph them.
To better protect migratory birds through winter, local authorities have launched a habitat protection campaign, conducting regular patrols, monitoring and environmental cleanup, while also carrying out public outreach programs to keep residents and tourists from accidentally feeding the swans unsuitable food.
Wild swans have chosen Korla as their wintering ground for 21 consecutive years, and their numbers have been rising year after year.
