Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Wednesday attended a symposium with representatives of overseas buyers and exhibitors at the Canton Fair in Guangzhou, calling on Chinese and foreign enterprises to actively promote global supply-demand matching and lead international innovation cooperation.

About 70 business representatives from nearly 30 countries and regions participated in the symposium in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, where the Canton Fair will be held from Oct 15 to Nov 4.

After hearing remarks from representatives of overseas buyers and exhibitors, Li said that over the past 70 years since its launch, the Canton Fair has grown alongside China's opening-up and development.

It has become not only a bright business card of China's opening up to the outside world, but also an important window for the world to observe China, Li said.

As one of the world's premier one-stop trade platforms featuring a complete range of goods and high efficiency, the Canton Fair brings together cutting-edge products and technologies, Li said, adding that it serves as a grand stage for traditional goods trade and a barometer for the development of new types of trade.

In recent years, the enterprises participating in the Canton Fair have engaged in more diversified business exchanges and are gradually upgrading to all-round partners, Li said.

He noted that China will continue to foster an open and innovative ecosystem, strengthen the protection of foreign-related intellectual property rights, and actively address enterprises' concerns.

China will continue to optimize the investment environment for foreign investors, expand market access and support foreign enterprises in local production, the premier said.

It will also accelerate the building of a modern industrial system and promote the planning and construction of new power grids, computing power networks and new-generation communication networks, he added.

China welcomes enterprises from all countries to invest more in China, deepen their presence in the Chinese market, strengthen mutually beneficial and practical cooperation in the industrial and supply chains, and promote the building of open and inclusive global industrial and supply chains, Li said.

Li also called for enhancing the digital and intelligent content of the Canton Fair, introducing more green products and exhibition areas, promoting green trade, and creating a "cultural Canton Fair" that highlights humanistic elements to foster cultural exchanges and mutual learning among nations.

Noting that global production and supply chains are undergoing profound restructuring, business representatives said the competitiveness of "Made in China" is increasing day by day, making significant contributions to the development of the world economy.

They said the Canton Fair is the most reliable global business platform and that the Chinese government has been continuously implementing precise policies, constantly optimizing the business environment, and helping enterprises from all countries achieve leapfrog development.

The foreign representatives said they are fully confident in China's development prospects and are willing to cooperate with China, share innovation, promote mutual growth and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

Before the symposium, Li visited a theme exhibition on the Canton Fair, presented commemorative badges and certificates to the representatives, and posed for a group photo with them.

Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), held a group meeting with participants of the 2026 Legislators Forum for Friendly Exchanges in Beijing on Wednesday.

He said the NPC stands ready to work with parliaments of other countries to implement the four major global initiatives, practice true multilateralism, step up exchanges at multiple levels and across various fields, provide legal safeguards for practical cooperation, and enhance mutual understanding and friendship among peoples.

Zhao briefed the participants on the outline of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) for economic and social development, noting that China will continue to expand high-level opening up and share opportunities with other countries to promote common development.

The participants in the forum called for stronger dialogue and cooperation among legislative bodies to build broad consensus and contribute to sustainable economic and social development of their respective countries, as well as global peace, stability and prosperity.

The 2026 Legislators Forum for Friendly Exchanges was held in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin on Tuesday. Present at the forum were 66 legislators and former legislators from 52 countries, regions, and international organizations across five continents, as well as 27 deputies to China's NPC and people's congresses at the subnational level.
