Rare spoon-billed sandpipers have returned to the Danzhou Bay Wetland in Danzhou City, south China's Hainan Province, for the eighth consecutive year to overwinter.

The spoon-billed sandpiper is a critically endangered species under first-class national protection in China. About the size of an adult's fist, the bird is known for its distinctive spatula-shaped bill.

A local bird protection team recently spotted and filmed the endangered birds foraging on the tidal flats during routine monitoring.

In recent years, wetland protection efforts in the tropical island province of Hainan have helped boost local biodiversity and provide a safer wintering habitat for migratory birds.

Iron ore futures finished higher Friday in daytime trading on the Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE).

The most active iron ore contract for January 2027 delivery rose 0.07 percent to close at 672.50 yuan (about 100.54 U.S. dollars) per tonne.

Iron ore futures were launched on the Dalian Commodity Exchange in October 2013 and have since become the world's most actively traded iron ore derivatives contract.

As the world's largest importer of iron ore, China opened the contract to international investors in May 2018, further enhancing its role as a key price benchmark for the global seaborne iron ore market.
