The United States should fulfill its special and primary responsibility for nuclear disarmament as a country possessing an enormous nuclear arsenal, said Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokeswoman Mao Ning at a press briefing in Beijing on Friday.

Mao's remarks came in response to a question regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's claim that Washington is in talks and dialogue with Russia and China on denuclearization.

"Sitting on an enormous nuclear arsenal, the U.S. should fulfill its special and primary responsibility for nuclear disarmament. This is the international consensus. China's nuclear strength is by no means at the same level with that of the U.S. or Russia. It is neither fair, reasonable nor realistic to ask China to join the so-called trilateral nuclear disarmament negotiations at this stage," said Mao.

The Naoli River National Nature Reserve in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province is witnessing its autumn peak of migratory birds, with the vast wetland serving as a key stopover for feathered travelers heading south.

Among the arrivals, rare birds including white-naped cranes, red-crowned cranes and oriental storks have been seen foraging and resting on the shallow flats and meadows. Large flocks of ducks and geese have also gathered in the reserve, at times circling in the air and at times feeding on the water.

To keep these migratory birds safe, local conservation authorities have launched a special protection campaign, carrying out integrated sky-ground monitoring, stepping up patrols in key areas, and conducting hazard inspections, bird rescue and public awareness activities to keep migration routes open.
