Legendary Brazilian guitar duo Assad Brothers to bring farewell tour to Hong Kong on October 30

The fourth Asia+ Festival will present the concert "Guitar Duo Recital by Assad Brothers" on October 30. Being leading figures in the classical guitar world for over half a century, this Hong Kong performance is part of the Brazilian Assad Brothers' farewell tour of their 60-year musical partnership. Local guzheng virtuoso Wan Xing will join the duo, offering a musical exchange that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries.

The Assadbrothers, Sérgio and Odair, have been acclaimed for their virtuosity and telepathic unity. Their music fuses Brazilian folk, Latin, jazz, and classical elements, earning them multiple Latin Grammy Awards over the years. The concert will bring together much-loved works from the duo's repertoire, including mesmerising tango music by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, Brazilian-flavoured works by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, and original compositions by Sérgio Assad, alongside Brazilian musical treasures rarely heard in Hong Kong. To mark the China-Brazil Year of Culture, Wan will also share the stage for a piece inspired by the folkloric legend of Mulan, in which the oriental resonance of guzheng intertwines with the Latin flair of guitar, crafting an exquisite melody that bridges East and West.

The concert "Guitar Duo Recital by Assad Brothers" will be held at 8pm on October 30 at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall. Tickets priced at $200, $300 and $420 are available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For telephone bookings, please call 3166 1288 or use the mobile ticketing app URBTIX.

Fringe activities including a pre-concert talk and guitar masterclasses are also available. For details, please refer to www.asiaplus.gov.hk/2026/en/assad-brothers.

Presented by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau and organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Asia+ Festival is held annually from September to November. Themed "Traditions Recast", this year's festival brings together over 30 countries and regions, and presents more than 100 performances and related activities, showcasing the artistic essence of Asia and countries and regions along the Belt and Road. For programme enquiries and ticketing concessions, please call 2370 1044 or visit www.asiaplus.gov.hk.
