South China's Hainan gears up for winter tourism peak with upgraded services, off-season offers

China's southern tropical island province of Hainan is drawing domestic and international travelers during the autumn off-season, with the coastal city of Sanya rolling out new attractions, special promotions and upgraded services ahead of the winter travel rush.

Leveraging the quieter period following the National Day holiday season in early October, Sanya has set out to refine its tourism products and prepare for the upcoming peak season. With fewer crowds and shorter lines, visitors during the off-season can enjoy a more relaxed holiday experience.

To maintain momentum during the lull, local scenic areas have introduced targeted discounts. Popular offerings such as diving, marine entertainment and family-oriented educational programs now feature exclusive promotional pricing.

"Targeting the post-holiday market, we have rolled out concrete off-season benefits, with exclusive discounts on popular categories like diving, marine activities, and family educational tours. We are also using this window of opportunity to polish our products and upgrade our services, fully preparing for the subsequent tourism peak season," said Shu Kai, deputy director of the Marine Entertainment Department at the Wuzhizhou Island Tourist Zone in Sanya.

In anticipation of the winter travel wave, Sanya has consolidated more than 1,200 tourism products spanning 11 distinct categories. The city is also developing tailored, themed itineraries designed for key groups of the population, including long-stay winter vacationers, young travelers seeking trendy experiences and inbound international tourists.

By introducing innovative tourism options, enhancing service quality and fostering closer collaboration across the industry, Sanya aims to sharpen its competitive edge and usher in a surge of visitors during the busy winter months.
